Cologne Lullaby Lyrics. An original lullaby inspired by Koeln (Cologne), Germany’s Rhine-side city known for its twin-spired cathedral and Koelsch dialect. Cologne’s cathedral took more than 600 years to complete, begun in 1248 and only finished in 1880, and locals still serve their light Koelsch beer in small, narrow 0.2-liter glasses, refilled again and again throughout the evening. Here you will find the lyrics, meaning, and chords.

Verse

Am Dm Am
Sleep now, Mamm’s little one, the cathedral bell is still,
Dm Am E7
the river barge rests calm tonight, beneath the fading hill.
Am Dm Am
Sleep now, little one, the old town square is near,
Dm Am E7
tomorrow’s sun will rise for you, and chase away all fear.

What “Cologne Lullaby” Means

Mamm is the word for mother in Koelsch, the local dialect of Koeln, a Rhine-side city famous for its twin-spired cathedral and centuries of river-barge trade. This original lullaby draws on those cathedral and riverside images of Cologne heritage.
