What “Hobeeyaa, Wiilkayga” Means
Djibouti is home to both Somali and Afar communities, who share elements of the same East African lullaby tradition heard in neighboring Somalia. This original lullaby keeps that familiar ‘hobeey’ call, set instead against Djibouti’s own striking landscape, the Gulf of Tadjoura and Lake Assal, one of the lowest points in Africa.
