The French writer Victor Hugo lived in exile on Guernsey for 15 years, writing much of Les Misérables while looking out over its granite cliffs, which he once called 'a piece of France that fell into the sea and was gathered up by England.' This original lullaby borrows that same clifftop, sea-facing view.
