“Eadni” means mother in Northern Sami, the language of the Sami people, Sweden’s indigenous reindeer-herding community of the far north. Their joik, a distinctive unaccompanied singing style, is one of Europe’s oldest living musical traditions. This original lullaby draws on those reindeer and joik-song images of Sami life, with “eadni” used as a warm address rather than a literal translation.
