Alsace Lullaby Lyrics. An original lullaby inspired by Alsace, France’s Rhine-border region known for half-timbered villages, storks’ nests, and terraced vineyards. Storks are treasured as a symbol of good luck and new life across Alsace, and after the birds nearly vanished from the region by the 1970s, a dedicated conservation program brought them back to nest on rooftops once again. Here you will find the lyrics, meaning, and chords.

Verse

Am Dm Am
Sleep now, little one, the timbered house is still,
Dm Am E7
the vineyard rows lie calm and dark, upon the Rhine-side hill.
Am Dm Am
Sleep now, little one, the storks’ nest here is near,
Dm Am E7
tomorrow’s sun will rise for you, and chase away all fear.

What “Alsace Lullaby” Means

Alsace, on France’s border with Germany along the Rhine, is known for its half-timbered villages, nesting storks, and terraced vineyards, a landscape shaped by centuries at the crossroads of two cultures. This original lullaby draws on those timbered-village and vineyard images of Alsatian heritage.
