What “Duerme, Duerme, Coquisito” Means

The coqui, a tiny native tree frog, is Puerto Rico’s most beloved symbol, its nightly call so much a part of island life that it is said a coqui cannot survive anywhere else. Puerto Rico’s bioluminescent bays, among the brightest in the world, glow blue at night from microorganisms in the water. This original lullaby, in Spanish, borrows both.
