Bubi Lullaby Lyrics. An original lullaby inspired by the Bubi people, indigenous inhabitants of Bioko Island who farm cocoa on its volcanic slopes. The Bubi maintained their own political independence on Bioko for longer than many other communities resisted colonial rule elsewhere in the region, organized under a traditional system of titled chiefs called botuku, and at its height the island’s cocoa industry made Bioko one of the most productive cocoa-growing regions in the world relative to its size.
