What “Pasifika Lullaby” Means
“Tina” means mother in Samoan. Auckland is home to the largest Polynesian population of any city in the world, where Samoan, Tongan, and other Pacific communities keep their music, dance, and language alive together. This original lullaby draws on those Pacific-community images of Pasifika life in New Zealand, with “tina” used as a warm address rather than a literal translation.
