What “Gagauz Lullaby” Means
“Ana” means mother in Gagauz, a Turkic language spoken by the Orthodox Christian Gagauz people of southern Moldova. Each spring, Gagauz communities celebrate the Hederlez festival with the communal Horo dance. This original lullaby draws on those springtime and pastoral images of Gagauz life, with “ana” used as a warm address rather than a literal translation.
