Cherokee Syllabary Lullaby Lyrics. An original lullaby inspired by the Cherokee syllabary, the writing system created by Sequoyah in 1821, still taught and celebrated today. Sequoyah could neither read nor write English, yet spent about twelve years developing this eighty-six-character system entirely on his own — one of the only times in recorded history that a single person single-handedly created a complete writing system for a language that had none.
