Chodske Lullaby Lyrics. An original lullaby inspired by the Chod people of western Bohemia, historic guardian communities famous for their bagpipe music. The Chod people were historically granted special privileges by medieval Bohemian kings in exchange for guarding the mountain passes bordering Bavaria, and their distinctive dudy bagpipes, quite different in construction from Scottish pipes, are still played today at the Chodske slavnosti, an annual folk festival held in the town of Domazlice. What “Chodske Lullaby” Means
“Mama” is a familiar Czech word for mother. The Chod people of western Bohemia, near Domazlice, were historic guardians of the kingdom’s forest borderlands, known today for their traditional bagpipe music and colorful costumes. This original lullaby draws on those bagpipe and forest-border images of Chod life, with “mama” used as a warm address rather than a literal translation.
