Acadian Lullaby Lyrics. An original lullaby inspired by the Acadian community of Canada’s Maritime provinces, shaped by the world’s highest tides in the Bay of Fundy. The Bay of Fundy’s tides can rise more than 16 meters, the highest recorded anywhere on Earth, and Acadian history carries its own dramatic tide of change too: the 1755 deportation known as the Grand Derangement scattered families across the world, with many eventually resettling in Louisiana, where their descendants became known as Cajuns. The Acadian community of Canada’s Maritime provinces built wooden dikes called aboiteaux to farm the marshlands along the Bay of Fundy, home to the world’s highest tides. Fiddle music remains central to Acadian gatherings and festivals. This original lullaby draws on those tidal and fiddle-music images of Acadian life.
