What “Ajam Kuwaiti Lullaby” Means

“Daja” means mother in Kuwaiti Persian, the endangered dialect of the Ajam community historically centered in Kuwait City’s Sharq quarter. Persian merchant families here were pioneers of early Kuwaiti commerce and trade with the wider Gulf. This original lullaby draws on those merchant-quarter and harbor images of Ajam Kuwaiti life, with “daja” used as a warm address rather than a literal translation.
