Paloc Lullaby Lyrics. An original lullaby inspired by the Paloc people of northern Hungary, known for their richly embroidered headwear and rolling hill villages. Hollokő, one of the Paloc region’s best-preserved villages, was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1987 in recognition of its traditional folk architecture, still lived in today rather than preserved as a museum piece, and Paloc communities are also known for their own distinct dialect, easily recognizable to Hungarian speakers elsewhere in the country. “Anyu” is a warm Hungarian word for mother. The Paloc people of northern Hungary’s Nograd region are known for their richly embroidered headwear, with patterns that vary from village to village, and for their distinct, archaic dialect. This original lullaby draws on those embroidery and hillside-village images of Paloc life, with “anyu” used as a warm address rather than a literal translation.
