What “Szekely Lullaby” Means
“Edesanyam” means “my dear mother” in Hungarian, a warm word still used by the Szekely people of historic Transylvania. Long known as guardians of Hungary’s eastern mountain borderlands, Szekely villages are famous for their carved wooden gates and memorial posts. This original lullaby draws on those carved-gate and mountain-border images of Szekely life, with “edesanyam” used as a warm address rather than a literal translation.
