What “Teke Lullaby” Means
“Eje” means mother in the Teke dialect of Turkmen. The Teke tribe of eastern Turkmenistan is famous for its finely knotted carpets, recognizable by the distinctive “gul” medallion pattern woven by the women of the family, often as part of a bride’s dowry. This original lullaby draws on those weaving and homeland images of Teke life, with “eje” used as a warm address rather than a literal translation.
