Wallachian shepherding traditions arrived here gradually over centuries, carried northward by migrating herders originally from Romania and the Balkans, bringing distinctive sheep-cheese-making techniques still used today, and the open-air museum at Roznov pod Radhostem now preserves entire traditional wooden villages, letting visitors step directly into Wallachia’s centuries-old way of life. What “Valassko Lullaby” Means
“Maminka” is a warm Czech word for mother. The Valassko (Moravian Wallachia) region was shaped by Vlach shepherds who brought seasonal mountain herding and sheep-cheese making to the Beskid mountains centuries ago. This original lullaby draws on those pastoral and mountain-hut images of Valassko life, with “maminka” used as a warm address rather than a literal translation.
