What this song means

Ghum Parani Mashi Pishi (“Sleep-Bringing Aunties”) calls on imaginary aunties to come help lull a restless child, offering them betel leaf and a place to sit as a kind of playful bribe. It uses the classic Bengali endearments “Khoka” (little boy) and “Khuku” (little girl) — swapped freely depending on who is being sung to sleep — and remains one of the most recognisable lullabies across West Bengal.
