Afro-Peruvian Lullaby Lyrics. An original lullaby inspired by Peru’s Afro-Peruvian community, concentrated along the southern coast and known for giving the world the cajón box drum. The cajon was invented by enslaved Africans in Peru, who improvised the box-shaped drum from wooden shipping crates after being forbidden from using traditional African drums, and the instrument later crossed into flamenco music in the 1970s, largely through the influence of guitarist Paco de Lucia, who brought it back to Spain after touring Peru.
