Good to know

What “Sandmännchen” Means

This gentle waltz belongs to the world of the Sandmännchen, the little Sandman who sprinkles magic sand over children’s eyes so sleep can come. Before he arrives, the song shows the whole of nature already dozing — even the flowers nod on their stems in the moonlight. Told that the whole world is asleep around them, a child feels invited, not commanded, to join it.
