Tongatapu Lullaby Lyrics. An original lullaby inspired by Tongatapu, home to the royal palace and the kingdom’s kava ceremonies. Tonga is the only Pacific nation never to have been formally colonized by a foreign power, and a traditional kava ceremony follows a precise seating order based on rank and chiefly title, a custom still carefully observed today. “Fa’e” means mother in Tongan. Tongatapu, home to the royal palace and the kingdom’s kava ceremonies, is the heart of Tongan royal tradition. This original lullaby draws on those royal-palace and kava-ceremony images of Tongatapu life, with “fa’e” used as a warm address rather than a literal translation.
