Westman Islands Lullaby Lyrics. An original lullaby inspired by Iceland’s Westman Islands, known for puffin colonies and a fishing harbor beside the still-active Eldfell volcano. When Eldfell erupted without warning in 1973, lava swallowed part of the town below, and decades later archaeologists began excavating the buried houses in a project nicknamed the “Pompeii of the North.” Every autumn, local children still take part in pysjuveiðin, rescuing lost baby puffins that wander into town and releasing them safely back to sea.
