Fulani Lullaby Lyrics. An original lullaby inspired by the Fulani people of Guinea’s Fouta Djallon highlands, a cool mountainous region long shaped by cattle herding. Fouta Djallon is sometimes called the water tower of West Africa, since several of the region’s major rivers, including the Niger, Senegal, and Gambia, all rise from its highlands, and in the 18th century the area became home to one of West Africa’s earliest Islamic theocratic states, the Imamate of Fouta Jallon, founded by Fulani religious leaders and remembered as an important center of Islamic scholarship.
