Resian Lullaby Lyrics. An original lullaby inspired by Val Resia, an isolated alpine valley of Slovenian heritage, known for its own archaic dialect and traditional fiddle-and-bass music. Val Resia’s isolation for centuries helped preserve a dialect that some linguists believe retains very old Slavic features lost almost everywhere else, and its distinctive music pairs a small fiddle called citira with a low, cello-like bunkula, a combination found nowhere else in the region. Here you will find the lyrics, meaning, and chords.

Verse

Am Dm Am
Sleep now, little one, the mountain valley’s still,
Dm Am E7
the fiddle and the bass have quieted now, upon the alpine hill.
Am Dm Am
Sleep now, little one, the dancers rest so near,
Dm Am E7
tomorrow’s sun will rise for you, and chase away all fear.

What “Resian Lullaby” Means

Val Resia is an isolated alpine valley of Slovenian heritage in the mountains near Friuli, where an archaic dialect survives alongside a living tradition of dance music played on the citira fiddle and the three-stringed bunkula bass. This original lullaby draws on those valley and folk-music images of Resian life.
