What “Schlaf, Mein Alpenkind” Means

‘Wiegenlied’ is the general German word for lullaby shared across Austria and Germany, but Austria’s own Alpine and Tyrolean cradle songs lean especially on mountain imagery — distant cowbells, still peaks, wide valleys. This original arrangement draws on that pastoral Alpine backdrop, distinct from the more domestic imagery of northern German lullabies.
