What “Testour Lullaby” Means
“Yemma” is a familiar Tunisian Arabic word for mother, still heard in Testour, a town founded by Andalusian Moriscos who carried their music and architecture across the Mediterranean in the 17th century. This original lullaby draws on those Andalusian-heritage and musical images of Testour’s community, with “yemma” used as a warm address rather than a literal translation.
