Grande Comore Lullaby Lyrics. An original lullaby inspired by Grande Comore, the largest of the Comoros islands, dominated by Mount Karthala volcano. Mount Karthala is one of the most active volcanoes in the world, its vast caldera among the largest on Earth, and the island’s capital, Moroni, sits directly at its base, close enough that eruptions have sent ash drifting over the city itself. Here you will find the lyrics, meaning, and chords.

What “Grande Comore Lullaby” Means

“Mama” means mother in Shikomori, the Comorian language closely related to Swahili. Grande Comore, the largest island, is dominated by Mount Karthala, one of the world’s largest active volcanoes. This original lullaby draws on those volcano and coconut-grove images of Grande Comore life, with “mama” used as a warm address rather than a literal translation.
