Mayan Lullaby Lyrics. An original lullaby inspired by the Maya people of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, home to ancient stepped pyramids and sacred cenotes hidden in the jungle. Ancient Maya considered cenotes sacred portals to Xibalba, the underworld, and archaeologists have recovered ceremonial offerings, and even human remains, from sites like the Sacred Cenote at Chichen Itza, while separately, Maya scholars developed one of the very few fully written scripts in the pre-Columbian Americas, a hieroglyphic system so complex that linguists only fully deciphered it in the late 20th century. Here you will find the lyrics, meaning, and chords.

What “Mayan Lullaby” Means

The Yucatán Peninsula in southeastern Mexico is home to the Maya people, whose ancient stepped pyramids rise above the jungle canopy, and whose sacred cenotes — natural sinkholes of clear water — remain central to local life. This original lullaby, written in English, draws on these images — a respectful tribute to Maya heritage rather than an attempt to reproduce the Maya language.
