Makonde Lullaby Lyrics. An original lullaby inspired by the Makonde people of far northern Mozambique, world-famous for their intricate wood carving and mask-making traditions. Makonde carvers are especially known for shetani figures, often surreal and abstract spirit forms, and ujamaa sculptures, tall totem-like pieces built from dozens of interlocking human figures representing family and community, traditionally carved from mpingo, a dense, near-black hardwood also known as African blackwood.
