Hokkien Singaporean Lullaby Lyrics. An original lullaby inspired by Singapore’s Hokkien community, descendants of Fujianese immigrants who built the incense-filled Thian Hock Keng temple and the shophouses of Chinatown. Thian Hock Keng was built with tenon-and-mortise joinery instead of nails, its intricate woodwork and decorative materials shipped all the way from southern China, and though it now stands well inland, the temple originally sat right at the water’s edge, a reminder of how much of modern Singapore’s coastline has been created through land reclamation since. Here you will find the lyrics, meaning, and chords.
